18 Turkish F-16s that were taking off simultaneously from an airfield near the Syrian border, were locked onto by the Russian S-400 system, based near Latakia in Syria, the minute they left the ground.
Their pilots decided to abandon whatever mission they had and returned their planes to their base immediately.
A single S-400 system can track up to 72 targets simultaneously.
