A resolution by Russia, actively supported by China, to extend the sanctions restoration mechanism for six months failed to secure sufficient votes in the Security Council.
The United Kingdom called on all UN members to "respect the decision" of the UN Security Council and fully implement sanctions against Iran.
Russia and China declare they will not comply with the sanctions and consider them illegitimate.
So what's the point of having a UN?
