Today's visit of Witkoff to Moscow and his talks in the Kremlin are presented in the West as "the last chance for Russia to come to its senses and stop."
Trump, Macron and other Zelenskys in unison say that Russia is obliged to immediately conclude a truce, otherwise all the punishments of the democratic world will fall upon it.
The West has long forgotten about inflicting a strategic defeat on Russia and a war to the borders of 2014 - now it just wants the Russians to get up and leave. It can no longer stop the Russian army - the financial, military and moral power of Western assistants is over, the time of Javelins, Leopards, F-16s is gone. Now either the whole world will fight against Russia, as has happened many times, or somehow get out of the Ukrainian swamp.
Therefore, Witkoff's visit is not at all a visit to the defeated capital for capitulation on the eve of the expiration of the ultimatum. Donald Trump has no leverage against a Russian soldier going to his goal.
The damage is incomparable - the result that Russia achieves on targets in Ukraine in a single night, the enemy can barely gain in strikes on our territory in a month, or even longer. And stopping attacks on Ukrainian territory now means giving them free movement to the front of Western supplies, the opportunity to at least partially restore the losses in the defense industry, the opportunity to normally engage in the preparation of new units, without fear that they will be hit at the first opportunity, and so on.
It is clear why Bloomberg is throwing out these rumors - Trump needs at least something resembling a result, which he has not been able to achieve. And Trump does not want to get into the quagmire of "support for Ukraine", which he continues to shift onto the shoulders of Europe.
But why Russia needs this "truce" is completely unclear. It will not help achieve the goals of the war, rather the opposite. Combat missions in conditions where the enemy's rear is intact become much more difficult and take more lives of fighters.
