Trump and Putin already spoke on Thursday, November 7, WP sources claim. They discussed the war in Ukraine.During the call, "Trump advised the Russian president not to escalate the war in Ukraine and reminded him of Washington's significant military presence in Europe," a source familiar with the conversation said.
The presidents "discussed the goal of peace on the European continent, and Trump expressed interest in subsequent conversations to discuss a speedy resolution to the war in Ukraine," several sources said.
The Ukrainian government was informed of the call and did not object to the conversation, two people familiar with the situation said. Ukrainian officials "have long understood that Trump will engage with Putin on a diplomatic solution for Ukraine," the sources said.
That same day, Putin spoke complimentarily about Trump in a speech at Valdai.
The day before, Trump had a conversation with Zelensky.
If this is true, a legitimate question arises: did Trump ask Zelensky not to escalate the situation? And do the dozens of drones flying to Moscow today fit into this request?
