Most people in europe, especially those now old, who saw the state in the east of iron curtain after 1989, are afraid of soviet and equals today's Russia with soviet repression. This is now probably the main reason for reluctance or resistance against Russia, in spite feeling our rulers in the west does not seem to want our best.
I heard an old account from the Lemberg area. When national socialist Germany invaded west poland, people were fleeing eastward. Some days later the soviets invaded the east and after a while people tried to flee to the west instead, as the bolsjevik rule was worse. Before the war she also noted that after the revolution they did not hear singing or laughter any longer from the east side of the Bug, as they used to do pre ww1.
So just like the Germans separate themselves from the national socialists perhaps the Russians need to separate themselves from the bolsjeviks? (If they already do this, it is not visible in the western media.) Or am I misunderstanding?"
You misunderstand. The Bolsheviks have no meaning in Russia, neither for the government nor for the people. Russia is a democratic country. No less democratic than any Western country. By the way, none of the Russians will tell you anything bad about the Soviet Union. All you know about it is your Western propaganda. Ask the East Germans, they will tell you that they want Russia to "occupy" them again. Russia is a socially oriented country where the authorities take care of people. Russia is going through difficult times right now because your "democratic" West has announced that it wants to destroy it. But in Russia, the West will break its teeth, you will remember my words.
