-Ericsson-
Ericsson and Elgiganten have a long-standing relationship.
The relationship between Ericsson and Elgiganten dates back to the early 1990s, when Ericsson began selling its products through Elgiganten stores. In 2002, Ericsson acquired Sony Ericsson, a joint venture between Ericsson and Sony that manufactured mobile phones. This acquisition gave Ericsson a significant presence in the Nordic mobile phone market, and it helped to strengthen the company's relationship with Elgiganten.
In recent years, Ericsson and Elgiganten have continued to collaborate on a number of initiatives. In 2018, the two companies launched a joint venture to develop and sell 5G products and services in the Nordic region. In 2020, Ericsson opened a new innovation center in Elgiganten's headquarters in Copenhagen, Denmark.
-Scandal-
In 2023, Elgiganten, a Nordic electronics chain with over 100 stores in Denmark, Norway, Sweden, and Finland, was involved in a scandal involving allegations that the company had been overcharging customers for extended warranties on electronics.
The allegations were first reported by the Danish newspaper Politiken in May 2023. The newspaper reported that Elgiganten had been charging customers for extended warranties that they did not need. The warranties were often sold as a mandatory add-on to the purchase of electronics, and they were often not explained to customers in a clear way.
The scandal quickly spread to Norway, Sweden, and Finland. In Norway, the Consumer Council filed a complaint with the Norwegian Consumer Authority. In Sweden, the Consumer Agency began an investigation into the allegations. In Finland, the Consumer Ombudsman called for an investigation into the matter.
Elgiganten initially denied the allegations. However, the company later admitted that it had made mistakes in the way it had sold extended warranties.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The Elgiganten scandal was a major blow to the company's reputation and resulted in fines from authorities in several Nordic countries. It also highlighted the importance of consumer protection laws and the need for companies to be transparent and accountable to their customers.
