The swedish embassy has queried us about a story a swedish journalist has picked up that biden gave brezhnev a letter on the wallenberg case. We informed swedish embassy that senator biden did give a short interview to a swedish journalist at the hotel sovetskaya on august 30 concerning wallenberg case, but we were not aware of any Specific mention of a letter to brezhnev.
Swedish journalist did approach emboff at hotel immediately after she had interviewed the senator and inquired if embassy was aware of a letter from Biden to Brezhnev on wallenberg. (in the corridor confusion at The hotel, she had seen or heard discussion of the embassy' Being given a letter to handle.)
Emboff replied that there was a letter given to the embassy to forward to Brezhnev but that the contents of the letter were unknown.
Journalist stated that she understood biden had written a Letter to brezhnev on Wallenberg.
At the airport upon departure on august 30, senator Biden told the charge that he had planned to raise the Wallenberg case privately with brezhnev if he had seen him, but since he had not seen Brezhnev had decided to raise it with Zagladin and Zhukov at the airport, urging that the Soviet side make it possible for Wallenberg to return home.
