Another Catholic bishop is in a whole lot of trouble.
The top administrator of the US Conference of Catholic Bishops, Monsignor Jeffrey Burrill, has resigned amid allegations he was a regular user of Grindr and frequented gay bars.
Catholic news site The Pillar was the first to report the claims, and said it had access to Burrill’s cellphone data that showed he used the LGBTQ+ dating app.
Burrill’s resignation from his position as general secretary came in a memo from Archbishop José Gomez of Los Angeles to the bishops of the United States.
‘On Monday, we became aware of impending media reports alleging possible improper behavior by Msgr. Burrill,’ wrote Gomez.
‘What was shared with us did not include allegations of misconduct with minors. However, in order to avoid becoming a distraction to the operations and ongoing work of the Conference, Monsignor has resigned effective immediately,’ he added.
Before taking on the top job at the US Bishops’ conference, Burrill was a parish priest and a professor.

En annan katolsk biskop är illa ute.

Katolska nyhetssajten Pelaren var först med att rapportera om påståendena, och sa att den hade tillgång till Burrills mobiltelefondata som visade att han använde HBTQ+ datingappen.
Burrills avgång från sin position som generalsekreterare kom i ett PM från ärkebiskop José Gomez av Los Angeles till USA: s biskopar.
′′ På måndagen blev vi medvetna om förestående mediarapporter som hävdar att Msgrs beteende är otillbörligt. Burrill, skrev Gomez.
′′ Det som delades med oss inkluderade inte anklagelser om tjänstefel med minderåriga. Men för att undvika att bli distraherad av operationerna och pågående konferensen har Monsignore avgått omedelbart, ′′ tillade han.
Innan han tog sig an toppjobbet på USA: s biskopskonferens var Burrill en församlingspräst och professor.
