Beyond furthering and aiding talent mobility between Sweden and the United States, Swedes Worldwide promotes citizen rights abroad, such as voting rights and double citizenship for Swedes living abroad. Thanks to Swedes Worldwide, Swedish citizens can vote in parliamentary elections, even by post. Currently, the organization is lobbying for the right to vote electronically in the upcoming Swedish election, for those both living abroad and in Sweden. Voter participation abroad is much lower, around 32%, than if one was actually in Sweden, where voter participation is 85%. Important to Swedes Worldwide’s goal and to Swedish values in general, is the push for greater equality and equity globally. In lobbying for easier means for Swedish citizen abroad to participate in home elections, Karin and the organization are giving more and more people the ability to exercise their democratic right to vote, impacting both Swedes and the countries they are residing in.
