The ex-head of MI6 believes Covid-19 escaped from a Chinese lab.
Sir Richard Dearlove, who was at the helm of Britain's top spy agency from 1999 to 2004, said that he doesn’t think the virus was released deliberately. Speaking in a podcast, he cited a peer-reviewed study by a British-Norwegian team which discovered 'inserted sections placed on the SARS-CoV-2 Spike surface' that allow the virus to come into contact with human cells.
Dearlove claims the research paper was 'watered down' to remove accusations against Beijing. Not everyone has taken the controversial study at face value though. The Francis Crick Institute and Imperial College London have both rejected its conclusions. And journals such as Nature and the Journal of Virology have refused to publish it.
